Terms of Use

Last updated August 21, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Cloister LLC ("Cloister", "we") about your use of the Pactum app and the pactumbibleapp.com website (together, "Pactum"). By using Pactum you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Pactum.

What Pactum is

Pactum is a Bible reading app. It includes the full text of the Douay-Rheims Bible, reading plans, and an optional feature, the pact, that uses your device's Screen Time controls to block apps you choose until the day's reading is done. It is a tool for your own reading habit. It is not a parental-control product, and it is not a substitute for the guidance of your parish or pastor.

Your account

Pactum works without an account. If you create one, you are responsible for keeping your sign-in details safe and for what happens under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Tell us at hello@pactumbibleapp.com if you think someone else has used it.

Pactum Plus

Some features (the year-long reading plans, the streak, the pact, reading aloud, and progress backup) are part of Pactum Plus, a paid subscription or one-time purchase. Purchases are made through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and their terms apply to billing, renewal, cancellation, and refunds:

If a subscription lapses, nothing you have done is deleted. The whole Bible stays available to read, the pact releases your apps, and your progress waits for you.

The pact

The pact is something you set up for yourself, and you can pause it at any time from Settings. It relies on your device's operating system to block apps; we cannot guarantee it will work in every situation, on every device, or after every system update. It may fail to block an app, or it may keep one blocked longer than intended. Please do not rely on it for anything where that would cause harm. Cloister never sees which apps you choose or what you do in them.

Using Pactum

You may use Pactum for your own personal, non-commercial reading. You may not copy, modify, sell, or redistribute the app, try to get around its purchase features, interfere with its services, or use it in any way that breaks the law or the terms of the store you got it from.

Content and ownership

The Douay-Rheims Bible text in Pactum is in the public domain. Everything else in Pactum, including the reading plans, design, code, and name, belongs to Cloister LLC or its licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark law. These terms do not give you any ownership of it.

Changes to Pactum

We may add, change, or remove features, and may stop offering Pactum altogether. If we retire the app, we will do our best to give reasonable notice. Your reading progress stays on your device regardless.

No warranty

Pactum is provided as is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Cloister LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Pactum, and our total liability to you for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Ending things

You can stop using Pactum at any time, and can ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@pactumbibleapp.com. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Cloister LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will update the date above and note it in the app. Continuing to use Pactum after that means you accept the new terms.
